Date: 2/19/2024 Day 45 Port: LAUTOKA, FIJI
Description: The Fiji archipelago consists of
tiny coral atolls and mountainous forest-clad islands of volcanic origin, and
is famed for its aquamarine waters and white sand beaches. Lautoka, meaning
“spear-hit” or “hit to win,” was named that as a result of an argument between
two chiefs. It is sited in the western side of the largest island in Fiji. The
city is surrounded with the blue Pacific Ocean on the western side and green
gold sugar cane and pine trees on the other sides.
Planned
Excursion: NADI
SIGHTSEEING
3.5 Hours Light Activity # LAT-006: Free
Enjoy a
short but scenic coach drive between the coast and mountains as you head for
seaside Nadi. Soak up the rich
multicultural flavor of this small, bustling town with free time to explore its
streets and handicraft shops. Visit Vuda
Marina, filling a picturesque cove and full of vessels you wouldn’t mind
owning. Be serenaded in classic Fijian
style, slurp on seasonal fruits, and learn the secrets of coconut-opening.
Today's Notes: There were overcast skies with off and on rain showers for most of the day. We basically took a long bus ride around the island. The photo stops were a bust. Clouds obscured seeing most of the mountain scenery. At the shopping stop we both stayed on the bus. We're waiting until we get to New Zealand and Australia before doing any shopping. The stop at the Vuda Marina was perhaps the most interesting. However, we could not walk around the complete marina area being restricted to a small bar and visitor area. Would have been nice to look at the many boats and sail boats in the Marina.

Again I do have many pictures to process and a couple of videos. Please check back to later to view those.
