Date: 3/21/2024 Day 76 Port: PENANG, MALAYSIA
Description: Pulau Pinang, as it is known
locally, is the northern gateway to Malaysia and also the country's oldest
British settlement. The word "Pinang" in Malay refers to the areca
nut palm, which provides the betel nut, an essential ingredient in a delicacy
chewed by millions in the Far East. Today Georgetown is noted for the largest
collection of pre-war houses in all of Southeast Asia and the Penang Heritage
Trust has been established to maintain its unique heritage.
Planned
Excursion: BUTTERFLY
FARM & SPICE GARDEN
4.0 Hours Light Activity # PEN-007: Free
Walk among
thousands of butterflies in an enclosed vivarium. Feel an immense sense of calm as you wander
through the natural setting. Discover
many of Malaysia’s unusual herbs and spices in another garden setting.
Today's Notes: We had a lovely day and we enjoyed both stops. It was my first time experiencing an enclosed butterfly garden. There also were more to see than the butterflies show casing various reptiles and fish. The spice garden stop was very interesting and informative. Cathy really enjoyed this stop.
